Sandro Cellini
review 1: I'm enjoying this series of mysteries set in Florence by Christobel Kent. It's obvious that the author knows and like Florence. The main characters are believable and likeable. Sandro Cellini a former middle-aged policeman is now a private investigator. He often wonders, if he's up to this career switch. The book, describing the disappearance of a teenage art student, is his first case as a private detective. Wife, Luisa facing a health problem, is supportive and helpful. Giulietta, a former prostitute, joins the couple in solving the mystery.
review 2: (3.5 stars) This new series introduces Sandro Cellini, a newly minted private investigator, who after years in the police force in Florence, Italy, was forced to retire early after providing confidential informa
... moretion to a victim's family. As he waits for business, Sandro watches the world go by his window and worries about his wife's health. His first case is to investigate an apparent suicide of an elderly Jewish gentleman. The case is brought to him by the man's wife who cannot believe he would do this. While the initial evidence seems daunting, Sandro digs deeper and finds that the man had a hidden life. His second case is to act as an advocate for the mother of a missing young woman from England, Veronica, who is studying art. We see this story told initially by the woman's flatmate and companion, Iris, who is taking full advantage of the opportunity to study in Florence. It is Iris who becomes convinced that Ronnie has not simply gone away with friends, but is in trouble. She begins digging into the case. Sandro is shocked to find that he saw Ronnie out his window the day of her disappearance. As he works to find out the truth, he begins to see a connection between these two dissimilar cases, and diligently pursues an answer, while in parallel, Iris finds her own clues, working to solve the case before time runs out. I'll be interested to see where the series goes from this point forward, as Sandro seems to be an intriguing character. less
