review 1: This enormous book collects some of the finest essays of Hitchens covering topics as varied as the US constitutional history, literary biographies, the Arab spring, popular culture, travel etc. I couldn't savour all of these essays primarily due to my own unfamiliarity with the subjects dealt (one example was the essay exploring Graham Greene’s flawed understanding of the Panama dictatorship. See?)
review 2: This is a collection of short pieces, mostly from Slate, Atlantic Monthly, etc. some were for print editions and some were online. There was a lot that was repetitive because he would cite the same authors and use the same analogies in different pieces, probably with the correct assumption that they were unlikely to be read by the same people. He is at hi

His explaining that Snowball in Animal Farm and Goldstein in 1984 were meant to be Trotsky might actually be useful to some people with no sense of history. less

In some areas quite politically heavy. In others, Brysonesque in its interesting revelations.
