The Cutteridge Family
review 1: HR set during the American Civil War, with 34 year old widowed Southern plantation owner who was forced to submit her beloved home to the occupation of Yankee troops under the command the authoritarian Colonel Cutteridge. It's a nice change to have a more mature heroine, but pity she couldn't act her age and have more dignity and self-respect. She succumbed to the giggles every few pages, which got my ire after a few inappropriate moments. The two protagonists somehow fell passionately in love after exchanging a dozen words during a handful of meetings, and in less time it takes to say "fickle", she went from ardently defending her plantation and "her people" to abandoning the same in order to chase the good colonel across the battlefield.
review 2: I was expec
... moreting so much more from this one... The love story felt rushed, it had enough potential to be epic but it was extremely fast-paced and sudden. They fell in love (more like fell into extreme lust) out of nowhere. The war wasn't really described at all, important battles were slightly mentioned and years went by too fast! It wasn't bad but maybe I was expecting a lot more development? It was just OKAY. less

The story was good and the characters were likeable. Quick read about love during the civil war.
