review 1: Ah, yet another rendition of the typical "living for revenge" story. Sort of a simpler and more shallow retelling of "The Count of Monte Cristo." Except that Dantes's motivation for revenge was a tad more believable. Honestly, I was drawn into this book by the summary. It was a great premise for a book, or so I thought. But really? So, let me get this straight. The guy (I don't even remember his name because I didn't bother finishing the book) ditches Cara and prom and sets her up with some gross guy. Horrible, right? But it doesn't stop there. Cara spends the next TEN years making herself hot so said guy will acknowledge how unattainable and out of his league she is. TEN YEARS, PEOPLE. She slims down, gets a job at a magazine, and becomes gorgeous....just to impress a guy... more whose attendance at her high school reunion was questionable. But wait, there's more. She marches into the reunion, full equipped for battle wearing a sexy white dress and rocking her curves. So far, so good. She tracks down Mr. DoucheBag and flirts with him enough to catch his attention. BUT THEN. He doesn't even recognize her! She pours her wine on him and stomps off, but even after this guy's friend explains who she is, he doesn't believe that he actually hurt her. However, he's intrigued with her apparent immunity to his charms, so he decides to pursue her. Coincidentally, she lives practically next door to him (but neither Cara nor the guy noticed all this time). SO he goes over, and she puts her tough-girl face on again, determined not to become interested in him again. BUT AS SOON AS HE TOUCHES HER, SHE'S FALLEN ALL OVER AGAIN. Where's the depth?? She's not even falling for a personality here, people. She's falling for an arrogant guy who knows how to seduce a woman just through touching. I gave up around this point in the story. So based on my analysis of a little over 50% of the story, readers looking for romance with depth should not read "Unforeseen Reunion." But readers looking for a purely sensual romance might like it. I expected MUCH MUCH MUCH more depth, so this novella gets 1 star from me.
review 2: For a short novella, this story was quite good. High School Reunion, 10 years, girl out for revenge on the guy who duped her. He was the football star. She the nerd. She's all grown up now, editor of a fashion magazine and ready for her "get back at him". Oh, but she's still the same girl, but he doesn't know that. If you need a quick, sitting at the airport waiting for your plane type of love story, then this is your book. less
