review 1: If you love Marilyn Monroe, this is a must read! It's a wonderful insight into a time that was very turbulent for Marilyn (oh, but what time wasn't for her?). But I see this period of her life as the beginning of the end, which is why I feel this piece is so vital. It's written with warmth and a boyhood love and admiration of the "late great Marilyn Monroe." And if you haven't seen the movie, Michelle Williams captures the delicacy of Marilyn quite well.
review 2: I volunteered to host this book for my book club because I saw the movie and absolutely adored it. When I first started My Week with Marilyn, I fell in love. The book was so much better than the movie, and the movie was amazing. I totally fell in love with Marilyn and Colin and just aghhh so many feel
... mores. There were such heartbreaking moments. I've only ever cried during ONE book but this book made me wanna cry. I felt tears forming. Just so emotional and beautiful and amazing. It made me see a side to Marilyn Monroe that I never knew before.Then... the second half... The second half is the diary entries of Colin Clark while on set. This was one of the hardest things to get through. I hated them, and I'm a huge sucker for memoirs and diaries. It was just so boring, and I honestly hope if someone else reads this that they would like it but it took me forever to finish the book because of these so boring entries. I thought it was cool how he split the book through because he had stopped writing in his diary the week he spent with Marilyn, and that's why they're out in two sections but I found the diaries utterly boring because the real fun was in the first half. If you do decide to read this, I suggest you only read the My Week with Marilyn. If it weren't for me hosting it for my book club, I would have stopped. The first half gets 4.5 stars. But because of the horribleness that is the second half, I'm giving the book as a whole 2 stars. less

The Prince, The Showgirl and Me is fascinating. An insight into upper class privilege and a portrait of a host of British actors. Written at the time, it is one of the few critical perspectives on Monroe and it is really interesting to watch The Prince and the Showgirl again, alongside Clark's commentary about how scenes were achieved. However ... I do not believe a word of My Week with Marilyn. Anyone who has any knowledge of Monroe's life will spot all kinds of errors and it is just so much at odds with Clark's authentic journal. The film does a pretty good attempt at drawing on TPTS&M and Michelle Williams is just amazing in her role.

I got through the first half but then got bored with it. It did give me some incite to Marilyn.
