review 1: While I decidedly prefer happy endings, I already suspected this book would not have one. It's always amazing to me that even knowing that, as I read, I kept hoping for a different outcome. Being in the first person from Cher's perspective made it even more poignant and drove home the finality of the outcome. This book brought into mind that life and happiness are both fleeting. We need to enjoy both for as long as we can. review 2: Collette Scott has written a very provocative book of girl meets man; they fall in love, and share experiences that all couples do in early relationships. Cherise is finishing her college degree when her sister Shelly turns up at her door fearful and injured trying to find refuge from her abusive husband. This is not the major t... morehread of this story, but it is an important one from which all women can learn. The main thread is the deep abiding love that Cherise and Brandon, one of the law enforcers who helps Cherise deal with her threatening brother-in-law, have for each other. Read to the end, even though it is a tear jerker. You will find that when faith and love are strong, there are no barriers. Those who are beyond the veil do, in deed, reach those they leave behind. less
