review 1: The Yoga Club by Cooper Lawrence was not like anything that I was expecting. I struggled through the entire reading process and found myself repeatedly bored with the storyline. The characters were flat and extremely superficial. What bothered me most about this book is that the characters were stereotypical, they had no depth at all. I honestly felt no connection to the story, Lawrence's characters or the situations they found themselves in. Overall, The Yoga Club was not my cup of tea. I would have to completely disagree to it being compared to Sex & the City & Janet Evanovich. If you're looking for a quick and easy read with some superficial relationships including sex then you might like this book.
review 2: THE YOGA CLUB is a laugh out loud read perfect fo... morer the beach. Oh, wait, most of America is chilly at the time of this book’s release (whereas I am warm in Hawaii). So let me rephrase – this is an excellent candidate to read on the exercise bike … or waiting in line at the grocery store …. or cuddling up to a roaring fire. Cooper Lawrence takes the reader on a wild ride through America’s pop culture as four unlikely patrons of morning yoga find themselves dressed as Sarah Palin at a Halloween party. As they mischievously take a peek at the neighboring house, they witness the mayor in a compromising position (and the mayor witnesses the peeking Sarahs). While they would like to forget the incident, their picture from the party is published in the local paper with their names. The mayor blackmails them for their silence. Their budding friendship turns into a necessary partnership in outwitting the powerful mayor.Along the way, Lawrence pokes fun at society’s undertones and generates more laughs as the Yoga Clubs spins out of control. Still, they learn something about each other and themselves, making it a satisfying read of friendship, empowerment, and acceptance. Plus it motivated me to consider Yoga as part of my New Year’s Resolution! less
