review 1: This is the story of a preacher's son who enlists in the army after being disowned by his parents after coming out.I felt as if the first half was pleasant but felt a bit like a series of scenes strung together with not a lot of arc to them. I did appreciate the moments when the guys realized they needed to stick together. The mis-sent email near the end had me dying with laughter, and the tension that finally arose in the latter third of the book was quite moving. A real feel good book with men who always rang true as men.
review 2: Uh.... Wow! I've just finished this having pretty much read this in one go. This has been on my recommended list for ages and I so wish I'd got to it sooner, but to be honest I was a little put off by the title (not sure why now!).
... more I loved every second of this book and Ryan/Philip easily make it into my top five MM couples :) The other key characters had enough going on that I was just as invested in them too, but they didn't steal the limelight... and there were enough of them! It totally took me in and put me through the wringer, it was funny, heartbreakingly sad, tender and hot to boot. Def recommend this as one of the best military MM reads. less
