review 1: This book was a lot of fun. A high school kid gets possessed by a vicious and ancient demon. He then crashes his car with his best friends in the backseat and his girlfriend giving him roadhead (awesome!). Meanwhile an assassin is doing her best to kill these eternal fiends. And when his best friend turns into a demon when he dies... Well, things get interesting. The characters were believable, even the demons. The sex and violence were amusing. And it's a great setup for another story. It reads like a good quality B horror flick. Definitely recommended.
review 2: The first chapter is a grabber, and I wish I could say the rest of the book was as captivating.Dale Peck is a phenomenal author, among my five favorites, and I know he enjoys experimenting with all fo
... morerms of writing and this was perhaps his examination of commercial (horror) writing. The book has it's moments, some graphic violence, lurid and disgusting and intense to read. My overall problem with the book is the varying and confusing points of view; demons who possess humans and dispossess them, leaving them with memories and skills or crazy or dead. All of these viewpoints get twisted in the storytelling and as a reader, I was never able to really flesh out any one character, demon or otherwise. I have a feeling it was as complicated and difficult for Mr. Peck to write.I did encounter two editing mistakes in the text; once when the word should have be 'through' not 'though' and later on, a sentence in which the form should have been 'known' not 'know'. less
