review 1: Dan Carlin makes me love history again. This is one of his better shows, and I am convinced that Hardcore History is only getting better and better. The pacing is spot on, there are tons of relevant facts and quotes from primary sources, and he brings his personality and outlook that we've come to love.In short, this is history the way it was meant to be learned. If you are even the tiniest bit interested in history, I encourage you to start listening to Dan Carlin.Nobody else even compares.
review 2: I feel strange marking this as "read" when this only exists in audiobook form, still it's an amazing history and extremely fascinating. I've always been fasciated by Genghis Khan, but there are no real great histories on him and his Mongol empire. "Genghis Khan and
... more the Modern World" and "The Secret History of the Mongols" are the most popular books on Khan, but they are both extremely biased. Carlin manages to shine a light on the Khans in a way that doesn't ignore their villainous and monstrous tendencies, but they aren't demonized any more than is needed. Carlin also doesn't dwell too heavily on the great and glorious aspects of the Khan (as other histories are guilty of). Overall this is the most entertaining and unbiased history of the Mongolian Empire that I have ever come across. I would love to buy a hard copy of Dan Carlin ever transcribes it into a hard format. I'll definitely be reading and listening to more of his stuff. less
