review 1: I loved the concept of the story, I loved the reactions of the two, I loved that they both were getting a second (or third) chance at finding love. What I didn't love was the ending. It ended suddenly, as if the author thought "I better end this under 70 pages" and so suddenly just ENDED it. I was left thinking "Huh? That's it?" Everything built up to the end, yet when it ended it was so fast and hard and left you hanging wondering.... stuff. (Don't want to give anything away.)One other thing that bothered me. The book tells about other characters in later books. I assumed this book was the first one in the series because it was a free book. I actually read it to get a feel of the series and writer before buying the other books. But in the book near the end, it pretty much... more tells what is going to happen in later books. As if the stories in the 2nd and 3rd books actually happen BEFORE this book. Why read the stories when I know the outcome? Okay, yeah, I expect the couples to be together but there was something said about the couple from "A Cowboy To Keep" that clearly gives away stuff that happens in that book... and I haven't even read that book. It's not like an 'update' on things that I already know about, it's something that happens to the woman in the book AFTER the second book, or maybe during it, no way of knowing, but it's still something that to me makes me NOT want to read it because I already know not just the outcome but extra stuff that I really didn't want to know BEFORE I read the book. For those that don't care about SPOILERS.... keep reading.... Otherwise... stop reading now.....spoiler space.....What am I talking about? In this book near the end they let you know flat out that the the couple from "A Cowboy To Keep" had a tough time, but that he loves her son like it's his own AND he's now knocked her up and she's about ready to give birth to HIS child. I would hope that they get together at the end of "A Cowboy To Keep" but I didn't need to know BEFORE I even read it some of the details of their romance or the fact that she's now having his baby. That is something that should be mentioned either in book 2 or not until book 3 in some off handed update about friends. Not to mention that stuff from book 3 is ALSO mentioned in book 1.I really don't care to read the other books because I may know that they will get together, but I want the details to be new and fresh. Even just the few details that were given turned me off of reading the other stories. I hate reading books out of order and this just seemed like reading them out of order.
review 2: Sunny Days Ahead by D’Ann LindunGarrett has faced some tough life lessons from the death of his mother to his wife’s cheating. Yet, he still is a good man. When he comes across a homestead during an ice storm, he ends up making a big change in his life and the life of the family living there. This story was such a fun read. I loved Garrett’s strength as well as Sunny’s resilience. I would have loved to learn more about Sunny’s past with her family and why she has the low self-esteem, but this story was so full of love and lessons that I couldn’t stop reading it. I read the whole book in one sitting. Luckily it was a quick read! The two small boys and the dog, Moon, were wonderful secondary characters who tug at your heartstrings and from the backstory and friends we meet along the way, you can tell it’s a series that you are going to want to read more of. I don’t know if I could have been as strong as Sunny. Certainly I could be as stubborn and not ask for help and have to prove myself. Yet she’s smart enough to know when she can’t do it without help. Garret’s arrival was fate and brings about happiness for both of them as well as some healing in their lives.Sunny Days Ahead is a wonderful read that will capture your heart! Now I can’t wait to read more about the other Cowboys of Black Mountain. less
