review 1: I am amazed at how I had come to belief the lies purported about Thomas Jefferson. They are stated as if they are fact, as one current author quotes another, rather going to the original sources and documents of his day. Some of the political slander from those that were in opposite political parties have survived, but the truth about this great man and his fight for the emancipation of slaves, and the freedom of all man, has been buried with him. Jefferson was not able to free his slaves because of Virginia laws that prevented him from doing so. Please read this book, and learn from original sources, about his love for the Bible, God, and all men.
review 2: I know this book has garnered some controversy. That is one of the reasons I wanted to read it. Wri
... moreting history is always a daunting task. Is an author getting the real accurate portrayal of the person or are things being taken out of context and used to further an author's thesis or agenda? This book hits on several things that are dear to the hearts of Americans regarding Jefferson. Is he an american hero or a villain. So many claims are made about Jefferson and usually to support a current viewpoint. Some historical writings go out of their way to assassinate Jefferson's character and some go out of their way to make him a hero. This book includes lengthy portions of Jefferson's writings. It does a good job of allowing Jefferson to change his opinions and attitudes as he gets older. It sets a good context his culture of education and the values he was raised under and then how that evolved as he matured through life. Overall I enjoyed the book knowing that only God truly knows a person and we can get snapshots of a person from their writings and historical records about the person. less

Still in the middle of it, but we have been taught untruths about Jefferson in school. Shame!
