review 1: Prior to reading this I was told by several that Killcullen is just an author who rehashes common knowledge into a book. After reading this book, I can not agree. While he spends quite a bit of time extolling his own virtues and knowledge, he does propose an interesting theory on the five stages that constitute an accidental guerrilla. Even more informative is his description on the "insurgencies" in Afghanistan and Iraq as more than just pure insurgencies incorporating civil war (sectarian violence), international/global terrorism and other movements into a theater of war.
review 2: Quite an insightful book which draws on field experiences in Afghanistan and Iraq to articulate the theory of the 'accidental guerilla' , and also backs up his view that the cur
... morerent conflict in the world is inter-related and cannot rely on military solutions alone. His proposed solutions make sense and are food for thought. He also hints at how the current conflict may develop - where extremists make use of legislative loopholes to have safe havens in developed countries. I found this a good read- recommended. less
