review 1: I really don't know what to think about this novel. The character are bizarre as is the setting. The plot with its radical twists, turns and revelations is sometimes jarring and off-putting. The unusual affair it portrays may startle and disgust some readers. But somehow, it all comes together to make a read of substantial whole cloth. I would read another another novel by this author, but this time I will be more well-prepared for the unusual world in which his narratives obviously live.
review 2: Evocative, fast paced, and like a great gossip session with your best gay friend. And yet, it is tragic, thought provoking and real. Another reviewer complained that the novel did not offer up a great passion. Sorry, read a bodice ripper. The Two Hotel Francfort
... mores is a representation of survival and desperation. Self knowledge and loathing. It also represents how cavalier most Americans were about the war before Pearl Harbor. Many threads to carry forward to a successful conclusion. A very satisfying read. less
