review 1: What I really loved about reading this book was that all the recipes seem like something I, a 24 year old can make! Which is really exciting. I can't wait until I can actually cook again to try some of the things in this book. The stories that were scattered among the recipes really made it a fantastic book to just read. There were a lot of duck related recipes so if you don't have duck available in your area or if you don't go duck hunting, watch out for that! One thing that I really loved was that the author, David Leboviz gave substitutes for the things that you can only usually find in France, and he also gave a of insight into the culture such has most people in Paris don't kitchens like we do in America. For some reason, I found that crazy! Only thing I did not like ... moreabout this book was that he came off bragging about repeatedly name dropping the restaurant he worked at before moving to Paris, and his fellow chef friends. I love the recipes, don't get me wrong, but I don't love the character that I feel like the author portrays himself as.
review 2: I got this book as an ARC from NetGalley. I was initially very excited about it. I love Paris and I love cooking and I love cookbooks. This book started out strong but got very annoying very quickly. I don't speak French and I was incredibly frustrated by the inconsistent translations provided. Sometimes he would translate the French he was using. And sometimes he wouldn't. And there was no rhyme or reason I could see to this inconsistency. I did really enjoy the anecdotes that accompanied each recipe. Overall it's not a terrible book but just be prepared to not understand parts of it. less

Great pictures, but the recipes were impractical and not to my taste.
