review 1: I am absolutely fascinated by Julian Assange. After watching "The Fifth Estate" on the day of its release, I bought this book the very next day. It's such an important read. Assange has changed the world in such a way that affects people internationally, irregardless of who they are. This book is an absolute page turner. It does not dwell on Assange's upbringing, but jumps straight into the drama and the stories of individuals who are pivotal to Assange's tale. One person particularly affected me - Bradley Manning. His story is told in such a way that he becomes someone you want to hug hard, and for a very long time. He is not, in my eyes, a bad person. Neither is Assange, nor Edward Snowden. It talks of what is in the leaked documents in detail, but not boringly so. The a... moreuthors have created a really well written account of everything that unfurled with Wikileaks. By bringing the process of whistleblowing to the forefront of international media outlets, Assange has created a new wave of activism that will only grow with the development of new technologies. This book explains only the beginning.
review 2: There are some secrets that are better being untold. Unless you really want to know about WikiLeaks, I would pass on this one because Julian Assange is not a good guy and got his fame because of the leaks. The hipster community consider him to be a rock star of the year, according to the Italian's Rolling Stone, but he is a criminal that was charge for rape. I just don't understand how we can overlook one's pass transgression just because he leaked the truth. Yes, I understand that Julian is some kind of rockstar in the internet community, but he is not a pioneer in our history and is just a blur. There are far better people that we can look up to. I like these kinds of books, where information is the plot, but they put the founder of WikiLeaks on a pedestal. I could not get over Julian being the voice of the truth. less
