review 1: Normally I roll my eyes at books where the characters are instantly attracted to each other within seconds of meeting. But here, it worked and was believable.I really enjoyed the relationship between the two men and their struggles to accept each other for who they are. I do think that John made some very stupid errors that didn't feel right for his character, and that is why this didn't get 5 stars. Also, the beginning spoiled the end, since the main story is pretty much told as a flashback, we already know that they end up together and happy at the end. But by the end, I stopped being annoyed at it and the book came full circle in a way that was satisfying.
review 2: Gosh! What a history lesson! Actually googled the whole DPN stuff and it was intriguing. I
... more really liked this book! One comment on amazon by a reader stated they couldn't finish it. To each his own, but I was sorry to hear it. This book dealt with a social issue not usually explored in this manner with the backdrop of the university. It was also a walk down memory lane having gone to Howard med school, riding the Metro and seeing hearing impaired people there. I recognized all the places named. Loved I! Will look for more from this author. less
