review 1: Not sure the blurbs and reviews for this book are accurate. I didn't find this chilling. I didn't think it was a horror. I didn't even find it unsettling. What I did discover was that it was a page turner. I read this book relatively quickly. I don't usually read this genre but I must have been wired in early as I knew what had happened before it is explained to us. I think I picked up the clues from the beginning. And that's something (When it comes to people I'm known as being incredibly unobservant - reading obviously is different lol!) Did I enjoy the book? Not really. Did I appreciate it's writing, it's merit. Yes I did. Would I read more from him? Unlikely. But that's more about me. It's a genre thing......
review 2: There's some interesting writing here ... morewhen it comes to describing how people react to their 'phones - though if Pierre thinks any of it is distinctly modern, or proves a damn thing about the connected world versus empathy and engagement with the here and now, he needs to go back and read more Patrick Hamilton. Otherwise, a bloody mess. It attempts to raise many big questions, but the only one that lingers is 'just how telegraphed can a twist ending be and still count as a twist?'. less
