review 1: YA story about freshmen kids in high school. There is a mean girl and boy, and all the teenage drama you could never want. The main character changes her image as she enters high school, grows a backbone, falls in love, and ultimately grows in ways I didn’t imagine. This genre isn’t my favorite, but I still found the characters and story enthralling as I watched them grow, cringe during hard times, and find out who they really were. The ending will make you cry, so beware.

I was very involved with the story for the first two-thirds of the book; interesting plot, and sympathetic and well-developed characters with authentic teenage voices. Then the wheels fell off. The pace of the story became very rushed, in... more a "this happened, then this happened and then this" style. And the ending? It left me completely cold because it was so jarring and didn't fit with the overall feel of the novel. This could have been a great book. less
