review 1: I was really surprised about how much I liked this book. I've been going through an 80s memoir phase, and I think this is the best book yet. He is pretty up front and honest in much of his experiences through the book. From singing in the school and church choir, to being the lead in a 70s glam rock band, you think that fame would be the be all and end all of the story. But Mr. Snider really leads up to all the little things that fame brings to his undoing, down to passing out flyers in the early 90s. Through it all, his optimistic attitude towards everything with the love of his wife and family seem to get him through the rough time. Not what I expected, but glad it turned out that way. Hearing about the behind the scenes was a high point, his friends like Howard Stern su... morepporting and keeping him going. Overall, this is a great read for people that grew up in the 80s that want to get the real look about what happened with Twisted Sister.
review 2: I found this book incredibly entertaining. No denying that Snider is quite intelligent (if you doubt it, look at his Senate testimony in 1984 --- brilliantly shuts up a room full of politicians). I also had a somewhat personal connection. I grew up in Freeport and lived in Baldwin - just like he did. I came of age with MTV, and enjoyed good heavy metal back in the day (and still do). I've seen TS perform about a half dozen times, so it was great to validate the comments he made about intensity of performance and show styles, etc. Instead of being bitter about a fairly raw deal from his record company, Snider essentially lives and loves life. I think he is incredibly self-aware and honest. To boot -- I saw him in Rock of Ages a couple of years ago, and the guy could not have been more gracious or cool with the audience. Did a Q&A with whoever wanted to stay behind, then took it outside because of the NY union stagehands. Posed for pictures and was just "cool". The book is a blast if you remember TS, are in the music biz, or like Snider from his later endeavors. less

The first half was tons of fun. This is where I follow my mother's advice and, "say nothing at all."
