review 1: I really liked this book. It wasn't the easiest read but it was brilliantly written. It's the kind of writing that makes you pause now and then because a sentence has so much truth to it or is so honest or beautifully put. When I finished this book, I actually sat back and felt amazed. It's not for everyone. If you don't like stream of thought writing you won't enjoy it. To me - it was brilliant and real and lovely.
review 2: This is a marvelous book. What is lacks in page numbers it makes up in depth. Over the course of a day, the lives and friendships of three successful friends (a playwright -- the narrator, an actress -- she prefers "actor", and an art historian with his own TV special) are revealed. Madden brings the history of these three people
... morealive through mundane objects and also juxtaposes the main characters with their siblings. It makes for an enjoyably complex read. less
