review 1: This short book, originally written in French and translated by George Miller (author of 'Babe') is an emotion-laden coming of age story. It is told by Lou Bertignac, a quirky, lonely 14-year old girl whose advanced IQ has allowed her to skip a few grades. Her class project, interviewing a homeless 18-year old woman she has seen hanging around the train station, leads Lou to self discovery and facilitates change in her complex family dynamics. The translation feels a bit clunky, but the narrative seems genuine and emotionally powerful. I enjoyed the read tremendously.
review 2: No and Me is the story of a gifted young teen who develops a friendship with an 18 year old homeless girl called No. With the assistance of her parents and friend Lucas, Lou, the young
... moreteen, tries to help or save No. Along this journey, No ends up helping to transform the lives of Lou, Lou’s parents, and Lucas. Some of the themes in this book are loss, abandonment, loneliness, depression, friendship, and homelessness. This book would be great for teens as there are some issues such as prostitution that may not be suitable for a younger audience. less

This book deals with a very serious issue, though I felt the ending could have done differently.

Interesting but a little hard to warm to the main characters I found.
