review 1: I haven't done too much reading into the steampunk genre, but I really thought the description of the story sounded interesting, so I gave it a try. I enjoyed it. Steampunk fiction relies a lot on world-building and I think the author has created a well-rounded universe in which the characters inhabit. Sometimes, there's too much detail in a new world and it gets distracting, but this one hums along just fine in the background. It's a pretty interesting beginning and the romance and the smutty parts were well done. I liked the baron and his reluctant bride, they're the kind of characters you hope to meet again.
review 2: I really liked the story though at times I wanted to shake Charlotte a little but she did get there eventually. The biggest twist in the whole
... more story I think is once they figure out exactly what's going on. And what losing all these lives and all the danger was really for. You really can't help but love Dexter and like Charlotte I agree his best quality is that at all times he's himself even when he's dragged into the world of paranoid spies. I also appreciated the fact that Charlotte and Dexter didn't just magically fall in love on sight, it took some time and they did sort of know each other to start with. The whole reason I wanted to read the book in the first place was because I liked the cover, i have a thing about covers. But i loved the story too and will definetely be reading the rest of the series. less

I enjoyed this very much. I am becoming a fan of at least some kinds of steampunk.
