review 1: The Sound and the Echoes was a nice return to stories reminiscent of the Harry Potter genre. I read the book on my Kindle, and I loved the illustrations; they really brought the story to life. The story had many characters who were hiding something, so sometimes it was difficult to read because I could feel that there was something we didn't know about that person, but the book didn't delve into the topic until later. I was also sad that the boy who was half-echo, half-sound was referred to as a Mongrel in the book; I felt like Mongrel was an insult on the level of "mudblood", so I was sad the author called him that. But in the end, the story came together at a wonderfully adventurous climax, and all my questions were answered.
