review 1: Wow! What a great read!!! Derek Thompson and Scott Thayer are the heroes in our story by Mr. Starr. They just finished high school and are preparing for their first year of college. They are also in love with each other. I say that here because if you have any problems with M/M, Gay characters, this isn't the book for you. However, if what you really care about is a really good story, then this book needs to be on your list to read if you haven't read it already!Coming of age stories aren't always easy to read, I'm sure they're not easy to write either... Mr. Starr makes Derek and Scott's story worth reading. The story is vibrant, sexy and very full of love and passion. I have to say that I thought Claire rocked! She is Derek's mom, and I wish all moms were that cool and u... morenderstanding.Derek and Scott are starting college, learning new things and life lessons, as well as meeting new people. It is quite a story, and was set at a good pace. I never had to figure out what happened or go back to re-read a section because the author and editor were just trying to squeeze it all in. Mr. Starr and his editor did a wonderful job of telling this story. I not only loved Derek and Scott, but I loved Beck, Josh and Pierre (who we meet in the 1st few chapters). All the characters in this book are good. I thought this book was incredible and went out and bought Meant For Each Other by Mr. Starr.Oh, and yes, it has a happy ending.
review 2: Wrestling with Love is a novel set against the backdrop of University and the promise of a fresh start to a wonderful future with your first love. Scott and Derek have finally finished senior year on a high, both academically and personally, but that doesn't mean that everything from here on will be a bed of roses. Not missing a beat, the realities of their relationship start to become clear very early on and there's no sense fighting it, from here on in you're hooked. When it comes to his father, Scott has a rather volatile relationship at best. Close to his mother, Scott is using college as a chance to spread his wings away from the overbearing control his father desires and his mother has only just started breaking away from. Scott may be seeking independence to discover something, but to begin with, it isn't honesty with himself. Scott having a desire to keep their relationship on the down-low begins to put pressure on both men, despite their promise to be totally open with each other after miscommunications the previous year.Derek has always had wonderful parents, supportive and helpful. At the start of this novel, his mother is aware of his sexuality, but Derek has yet to share this information with his father. Ready to move on and start their life together, single bricks start falling from the tower of love as Scott grinds building to a halt with doubts and insecurities. Reality in the form of a pushy fellow student allows doubts to intrude and the remainder of the love wall topples over, leaving Derek scrapping for the pieces of both their hearts. As both men still struggle with lingering teenage fears, coming out only to those nearest them, and the burgeoning knowledge of their sexuality in the wider world, they also begin to realise how things affect not only themselves, but those around them and the relationship they're trying to build. Although these realisations don't always come about in a positive way, for me this just showed further how D.H. wrote each character, keeping reactions and emotions human and direct.Wrestling with Love is the sequel to Wrestling with Desire, a young adult novel. Although both stories can be read as stand-alone, reading Wrestling with Desire first gave me a much richer history for each of the young men as this first novel focused more on the personalities and family relationships. Both novels are really wonderful, well-written reads with full characters and realistic interaction. Once started, neither can be put down. If you enjoy romance, real-life drama or the road to happy endings, then Wrestling with Desire, written in a contemporary style, is for you. NxNote: Reviewed for Queer Magazine Online. less

It's very good, although Derek has a few "too stupid to live" moments.

Dialogue felt very unrealistic at times.
