review 1: It was pretty good right from the start : Celtic hints, naked Scottish hunk on the beach, vengeful ex-girlfriend ! And it kept on : fast pace, tough heroin, super powers, you don't get bored a single second. Delaney is strong and spirited, loyal and faithful to those she loves. I really really liked her very much. She's seen a lot in her short life yet she got out of it stronger. Not hard, but strong. She stands her own, faces her fears and feelings with realism and goes for what she wants. I loved that she was the one to make a move on Rowan, it's not something you see often in romance books. She was a virgin when she met him, even if she had been engaged, but as he says, she "embraces her sensuality" without the shame or hesitation I've read elsewhere. (The sex scenes ar... moree rather hot but I've read hotter.) Still, I liked that, it's part of the strong woman vibe. I also liked that the ex-boyfriend, for once, wasn't portrayed as a total dick, you could see why she fell for him first. It was a very good read, and maybe the start of a series (there were some hints about Branden...) ? I'd love to ! Hey : strong lovable heroin and my Celtic roots loved the atmosphere of the book very much. Oh, by the way, the hero is hot too ! I'd like to read more by this author. One thing, though : she's lost her virginity to Rowan, but when he makes her forget ever meeting him, how can she explain that, huh ? Vanished into thin air ?PS : ah, forgot the quotes again !! I'll put them on my blog.
review 2: I thought this was a book with tremendous potential that could have benefited from a strong editor to help with pacing and making the world building come together. This author has a lot of talent and the writing was quite good, but the pacing was slow in the first 1/3, despite a lot happening. And the pieces of the world/story never quite came together smoothly, making the reader feel always about one step behind. Still, a lot of potential here. less
