review 1: A free read on Bookbub that I started to read on my phone, but it was so enjoyable, I got out the Kindle and finished it in 3 hours.Great premise for a Regency. A miserly cousin dies, leaving Millicent, her mother and 2 sisters, again with no living, so Millicent, who has been the cousin's non-paid secretary, decides to "kill herself off" and take the identity of her male cousin. Ridiculousness ensues. She is so clever and funny that after saving a Duke and his sister from a carriage accident, she/he goes to London with her sisters to give them a season, and becomes quite popular. The Duke has befriended Mr. North as she is now called, and other interesting plot points emerge. Millicent comes to like the freedom of being a man,and thinks she would like to stay one, but of ... morecourse, love happens and there is a happy ending.
review 2: I wasn't sure what to expect, but this book was pure entertainment and a lovely escape. It was fun, witty, conversationally ludicrous , and full of love. Millicent's love for her family, and eventually for the Duke, drives her to sacrifice her own happiness in order to secure their futures. By assuming the identity of her recently deceased skinflint cousin, Millicent starts an adventure of epic proportions, as she begins to revel in the freedom of living as a man. Losing her skirts and the strict requirements of being a woman allows her to grow and be valued for her business sense and wit. Her adventure is never dull - I would love a sequel! less
