review 1: The graphic novel format works so well in this fascinating look at the " dirty thirties". Don Brown includes all the important back matter, history of the area and geography, economic concerns and health problems, brought about by all that dust. Interesting and engaging for an upper elementary - middle school reader. I'd pair it with one of my favorites, Karen Hesse's Out of the Dust, for a quick, but potent look at this period of history.
review 2: Wow! I've never read a nonfiction graphic novel before. I loved the pictures. Only two concerns: the language was a little higher reading level than I expected, which might throw some kids off, and one picture shows ships in the air, in an attempt to display the idea that so much dirt was in the storms.
