review 1: A very large, long book but such great writing. I grew up with Walter Cronkite on the CBS evening news. I remember the moon landing, the Iranian hostage situation, Robert Kennedy and Martin Luther King assassinations, Vietnam.....the news stories of the 60's and 70's and 80's. I enjoyed and appreciated reading about his life.. and I thought it humorous and quite appropriate that he was a liberal, like me. I wish I would have been able to meet him! Such a fabled life....highly recommend book....definitely got my money's worth.
review 2: This could have been a truly excellent book if Brinkley had crammed more of the fruits of his research into footnotes instead of boring the reader with information which which soon becomes tedious. The editing is terrible and th... moree book is twice as long as it should have been. The reader is put through the burden of plowing through excruciating details of the lives of tangential figures in order to reach the highlights of Cronkite's life and contribution to 20th century TV news broadcasting. less
