review 1: A good book for someone REALLY into knowing how a significant amount of the national parks and monuments in this country got saved from exploitation. However, it's long on facts and short on story. This project would have been better split up between Teddy and a few of the people who helped him achieve his goals. Worth a read if you're a nature junkie, probably other, better sources if you're a history buff.
review 2: Excellent history of the development of TR's conservation ethic and the steps he took both privately and through public office to save valuable habitats and wildlife. For the most part, this book was written in a very easy to read format that focused primarily on telling the story of TR and conservation vs. just listing basic facts and figures.
... moreThe author does a good job of pointing out some of the inconsistencies in TR's conservation ethic and explaining why, at they time, they didn't seem so inconsistent to him. Although this book was a bit lengthy, it was definitely worth reading and I would highly recommend it to anyone who wants to know more about TR, the conservation movement of the late 1800s and early 1900s in America, or the formation of American's natural parks and national monuments. less

Incredibly well researched, but the book got very tedious very quickly.

Very well written biography, but somewhat long and redundant.
