review 1: The storyline could have been very interesting - a desperately depressed, very wealthy woman, boarding a ship (as a stowaway) to escape her home after the death of her young son - but the story was not well executed. Her interractions with the other characters could have been more interesting. The storylines were not were not completed. The ending of the book did not adequately wrap up the storylines, and the title, "She Wore Only White" made no sense, because she did not only wear white, and she hated the white gown in which she was dressed when she boarded the ship.
review 2: I like books set in historical context, and with intriguing characters, therefore this book was a quick and relatively satisfying read. Point of view shifts regularly and unexpectedly
... more, which makes it a little challenging to keep focused sometimes. Unfortunately the climax was a letdown and the book ended in a very boring "sail off into the sunset" way which made me feel as if the author just sort of gave up. less

The inspiration was a short newpaper article in an old NY Times. An imaginative tale was inspired.
