review 1: Not the kind of book I usually pick up, but I'm glad I did. The author is a friend of someone I work with and I was asked to check it out. A summation of the beginning plot line might sound unconvincing, but that's not the way it reads. It felt possible and realistic and truly harrowing. The story concerns police corruption, and the author, a former lawyer, is passionate about laws that allow the exploitation of unconnected people without much money. As a Chicagoan I felt that Diskin got most of the details right. My one criticism has to do with the way that personal lives were wrapped up to neatly in the end. It felt like a concession to the tropes of romance novels.
review 2: I am surprised how much I enjoyed The Green Line. Being a Chicago transplant of ten
... more years its always nice to read a book that's set here. This book was really very good though. The story evolved well, was exciting, kept me guessing most of the time (not all). I did feel Abby became close to people too quickly. I felt someone like her with attachment issues would not. She connected with Ali and then Marcus like they were her best buds after only a few meetings. I kind of wondered would she end up with Marcus... I'm not telling though! less
