review 1: If you're into crime lit, it's pretty difficult to find a reason to not read a novel by an actual working detective, add to that, one who serves in a major metropolitan area like New York City. Edward Conlon's the real deal, and he treats readers to a unique perspective on crime from the police point of view. Filled with details and observations that only somebody immersed in the real life job could come up with, Red on Red is thrilling if a bit scant on plot. But I'll even argue that the minimalist plot adds to the novel's overall realism.
review 2: Meehan, an introspective Irish cop, is paired with the more volatile Esposito. Having become friends and allies, despite an ongoing Internal Affairs inquiry into Esposito, the two cops have a mutual respect for one
... more another despite their divergent techniques. This leads to a thought provoking tail of two men who change each other as the book proceeds to it's conclusion. Are they likeable? I'll leave it to you to decide. less
