review 1: This is another book from beloved biologist, EO Wilson. This one is directed at budding scientists and probably has less appear to lovers of etymology per se. For those in science education, scientific research or considering those fields, this is a good book to read. It's pretty light and it's possible to skip around sections that interest you much. My one criticism is that EO Wilson grew up in an era that so little resembles today's world of scientific research and technology that some of his advice seems less valuable. On the other hand, Wilson has a unique and compelling view of the world's ecosystem and the dangers that face us as this century. He makes an impassioned call for students to take on a science education and take on the challenges that face us. I use his p... moreowerful words to talk to freshman and it never fails to make them pause and think.
review 2: As a student considering going into scientific research in the future, his advice on maths skills, IQ and passion definitely encouraged my pursuits in biology. That being said I also agree to reviews below stating that his naturalist background provided more advice geared towards biology based career paths opposed to physics or chemistry, drawing largely from his own field research in ant colonies. It's a very quick read though so I do recommend this book for those unsure of going into science. To summarize the main message that I got out of reading this book: pursue your passion, even if you are unsure of success or the skills you have. less

His capacity to inspire, as is this book's intention, couldn't be more on the mark.
