review 1: Divorcees.biz is a delightful, short read. It is the story of four women friends who decide to open a "classy dating service" in the Mayfair district of London. (A friend once shared the following words of wisdom with me: Always keep a good address. This book adheres to that principle.) The book not only tells the story of the friend's new business venture, but also the story of the four women involved and their second chances at happiness. It is a very English/British story using their vernacular, so many American readers may not understand all the innuendos and the vocabulary used in the story. I recommend this book for anyone looking for a lighthearted, fun read. It would make an excellent movie.
review 2: The book centres on 4 friends who are recently divo
... morerced and setting up a new business. The trials and tribulations of setting up this business provides the progress for the storyline, supporting each other through life's ups and downs, as well as the convenience of access to available men! The ladies have their wistful moments (including the classic "why me" which the vast majority of people can identify with) which I felt were the best elements of the novel. I thought that this book had an interesting twist on the usual chick-lit genre. Not a young single girl, looking for love, but four ladies who have certainly been bitten by their previous relationships. The characters are well-defined and we understand whose husband has played away, whose husband is violent, whose husband [...] etc. I think the storyline would have benefitted from more characterisation beyond the focus on the one with 'wacky' clothes. I did find the characters plausible but found that 4 felt contrived and it could probably have survived without the side story of Lucy - she was just there to round out the numbers.I would recommend this to readers who like their fiction full of fun and frolics. It is a fast and straightforward read - it does get you thinking whether you would react in the same way - but not overly challenging.Disclosure: I received a free e-book from the publisher (SalGad Publishing). This is my fair and impartial review. less
