Target in December on a Sunday can be a little nerve-racking anytime of the day. I went the first Sunday of December which is arguably not as bad as the last Sunday before Christmas. But this Sunday proved to not only be hectic but extremely time-consuming. A few months back, August 28th to be exact, Target integrated their Cartwheel app into their Target app. For the past few months, you could still use the stand-alone Cartwheel app instead of the integrated app in the Target app. Well, today was the first day I was forced to use the Target app to access Cartwheel and things are definitely different.
Things I liked:
- the ability to check prices using the camera on my phone (more on this later)
- a single place to sign onto when shopping at Target (I often would toggle between the 2 while shopping)
- same great deals
- coupons included for some items rather than printing them out
- saving tons of money ($413.90 to date)
Things I don’t like:
- even though you can check prices by scanning items using your camera, many of the prices didn’t match the shelf price or the price at the register (I showed the cashier and she gave me the scanned price on every item that didn’t match)
- it takes too many clicks to get around adding items, scanning items and then using the barcode at the check
- finding the barcode (I couldn’t find it, the cashier couldn’t find it, a store manager couldn’t find it); seven minutes and too many clicks later, I found it, only to hand it to the cashier who touched the screen and lost it, and then me finding it two minutes later
Overall, this new integration is going to take getting used to and some time using it before I will be able to navigate it as swiftly like I did the old app. I do hope they get the price scanning kinks out. I really would like to use this feature since I hate looking around for one of those red price scanners. I scanned almost every item in my two carts (yes, that’s right two carts this Sunday using my 20% coupon from Black Friday). This took time because some scans would take me out the Cartwheel part of the app and back the home page. My guess is that I just wasn’t using it correctly or I kept accidentally hitting something. In time though, I know I will be up to speed and hopefully get out of there sooner. If you are already using Cartwheel, I highly recommend it. Just download the Target app and create a sign in and you are ready to go.
