review 1: I read this book at the recommendation of someone I met.I definitely got to a point where I was sort of like: I get it. Thanks for the tour of the extremes of pathology, but overall I can see why this book was recommended and should be. It really does take a tough and nuanced look at what's going on with lots of women. Much of it felt true to my own experience with the ladies I've known, but it was still a valuable look from the other side. The mommy crap kinda lost me in the middle, but that's not where it ends and not where it begins.Hot tip: I knew the stories were interconnected but I wasn't really paying attention to that till midway. Pay attention! It's better when you make the connections.
review 2: This is a solid collection of loosely interconnected sho
... morert stories. There's great differentiation in voice between narrators and the scenarios in which the characters find themselves are so recognizable. As you read, it's easy to find yourself and the women you know within these stories. Schappell does a great job of creating relatable if not likeable characters. Overall, a very engaging, if heartbreaking, read. less

Far too heavy-handed, especially the last story. All of the conflicts felt so cliche.

I loved these stories--perfectly flawed female characters.

The bones of really moving fiction, but kind of tired.
