review 1: I read A Kilted Christmas Wish by this author before reading this book. In that story, the heroine reads The Highlander's Reward before she makes a Christmas wish. Having that knowledge while starting to read this book only added to my enjoyment. I really liked this book. Magnus and Arbella are great characters. The beginning was a little rushed but once the story starts to take hold, you get lost in their story. I thoroughly enjoyed this story and will read the next book in the series.
review 2: Lady Arbella de Mowbray is on her way to Stirling to marry the Steward of Stirling on orders of King Edward of England; it isn't her idea of a marriage. However, when Lady Arbella and her father arrive at Stirling, they are thrown into a battle between the Engli... moresh and the William Wallace's Scots, separated and Lady Arbella is saved from ravishment by Laird Magnus Sutherland. He wasn't looking for a bride; he was engaged already but he decides to marry the extremely reluctant Arabella in order to protect her. As the newly married couple arrive at the Sutherland castle in the Highlands, Arabella is confronted with nothing that is familiar but knows that Magnus is the answer to all her prayers. Accepted by his clan, their marriage quickly becomes one in reality so, when his "fiancée" shows up, things get heated in a hurry. Then Arabella's betrothed comes with her father and demands satisfaction. All this in the midst of Wallace's bid for Scottish independence.I couldn't put the book down. I loved Arabella and Magnus, the way they interacted with each other and with members of his clan. I liked the secondary characters too and the fact that William Wallace was part of the story. I read a lot of Scottish historicals and this is a good one. less
