review 1: A story that captures the multitude of sights, sounds, a sensations that occur during a thunderstorm and the power a simple storm has to bring people together. Rhythmic text begs to be read aloud and photographs, pencils, and gouache are expertly combined to create full page spreads and vignettes of action that takes place all over the city as the rain falls. This is a must read/must add to a rain-themed storytime; this book truly achieves and excels at its purpose. PreK-2.
review 2: I'm torn about this book. I'm not sure if I like it, so I'll just list the positives and negatives:Positive:-Illustrations-scenery looks realistic and characters look cartoonish. Very attractive juxtaposition. -Fun sounds for kids to make-The street carts and subway are very New Yo... morerk-y and funNegative:-Some of the wording is awkward ("Got a storm, big storm in bloom, here soon.")-If kids have never experienced a New York-like area with street carts and a subway, they might not get the bookI think I'm going to test it out on my storytime crowd and see how they respond. I think they'll like it when I have them clap and stomp to the taps and booms. less
