review 1: This book was on my To Read list, so I must have heard or read a great review at some time. But, and I say this as kindly as possible, I can't imagine why anyone needs to read this novel. I tend to really enjoy stories that span generations, that deal with WW 2 and Vietnam, teenagers, family fractures. But really, I kept waiting for something profound and never found it. This was a privileged family with lovely Scottish nannies who had a beautiful piece of land. All in all they remained fairly unscathed by WW 2 (the death of a beloved brother, but almost anyone could say that then). Helen seemed a vapid character. I didn't understand why or how she snared such a gem of a husband. Anyway, mostly, I found it a bit tedious.
review 2: End of the point totally jumpe
... mored around. There was no flow to the plot. And why did the author choose to focus on Helen?? The book starts out focusing on Bea so why didn't the author focus on Jane instead of Helen?? I found it odd. There was a lot of rambling and not enough dialog and the whole section of journal entries was out of place. Didn't really get invested in any of the characters except Bea, but her storyline came to an abrupt end. less

Multi-generational story of a family and their summer home on Cape Cod. Beautifully written.

I couldn't get into this novel; very disappointing as I usually like this genre.

What was the Point? Started out pretty good and went downhill quickly!
