review 1: I have enjoyed this series so much! Since my own ancestors were protestants who immigrated from Ireland, I've always been intrigued by the Irish struggle. Ludwig introduces us to amazing characters who each have their own unique story. As each book in the series unfolds, we are brought along on a mysterious journey to discover how everyone's lives are connected and how the elusive "The Celt" has been the mastermind behind it all. This is a series that I cannot seem to put down!
review 2: So- I started (& finished) Dark Road Home in one day. The suspense was well written and the characters drive the book very well. I have to confess that I was really predisposed not to like Eoghan. He wasn't my favorite character in Harbor (how could he be when Rourke was the... morere?), and when I read that he was the hero of book 2 I wondered how Elizabeth could ever pull off writing him in a positive light with how she ended Harbor. He's definitely a stubborn guy. But encounter #1 with Ana had me changing my mind about him- and he won me over fairly quickly after that. Elizabeth has a gift for taking characters who have frustrating hidden agendas and still making them relatable, and even someone you end up liking. As a reader I swung back and forth between falling for Eoghan's soft side- and wanting to strangle him sometimes. In the end, Eoghan's beautiful breaking scene sealed the deal. Elizabeth did a great job if taking Eoghan's character to the end of himself in a completely crushing way. Ana is a great foil for him- I enjoyed her vulnerabilities and strengths. I can't wait for book 3! less
