review 1: After her mother is murdered, a girl secretly slays evil fae while making her society debut. Sorta like a paranormal Scarlet Pimpernel by way of Buffy.Unique, but problematic. The world is intricately built, and I loved aspects of the main character (her grit, her mechanical expertise). Not so fond of her attitude toward the dudes in her life: the kind childhood friend with the ability to see fae (whom she mostly sidelines and emotionally brother-izes) and the ugggh "so jerky and distant he's sexy" fae who trains her (whom she inexplicably idolizes despite repeatedly saying she can't trust him). Lack of development led to a whiplash "whaaa?". And then there's cliffhanger ending that stops in the middle of a battle. Hmm.
review 2: Ever since eighteen year old La
... moredy Aileana Kameron's mother died nothing has been the same. They found the body with the heart ripped out, blood surrounding it, and Aileana sitting right in the middle. Now, even though nothing has been proven, Aileana is suspected for murder. After all, she doesn't do proper lady-like things. She is an inventor, she doesn't wear her corsets, and wherever she goes, trouble follows. But they don't know the half of it. Aileana's mother was murdered by a faery, the Baobhan Sith to be exact. Since that night Aileana has hunted for her, cutting down any other faery in her way. When she meets Kiaran, the last of the elder fae, she expected many things, but never to fall in love. Will Aileana catch the murderer of her mother? What legnths will she go through to do so? Is Kiaran really what he says he is, and has he been hiding something from her this whole time? Find out in the Falconer. I really liked this book because the characters were relatable and flawed. Too many times are there books with characters who have no flaws. For a person the even be a person, there must be flaws. Flaws make you who you are. Flaws make a character a character. Flaws make you who you are. Aileana was a very interesting character to read about. Having lived in the Victorian times, where women have virtually no rights and have to conform to the rule of men, Aileana was her own person. She could kill fae while wearing a corset, and if you don't know how constricting those are, FIND OUT, because killing people while wearing one is not easy. less
