review 1: Okay read. Way way too much explaining about the 12 steps, AA, Al-Anon, etc. It reminded me of those old SciFi movies where the scientist monologues to the perky girl assistant, telling her endless details of hyper drives or something. It makes the dialogue artificial, boring and distracting from the plot. As this is the first in a series, maybe the author felt it was needed as background set up for the characters. Don't know if I liked it enough to read any more in the series, though. (Read this one for free from Kindle lending library.)
