review 1: This was just beautiful. This story is really about Richie (the narrator) and his music career, but wrapped up in that story is Brandon, a childhood friend. The two guys go different ways after school, Brandon to the Army and Vietnam and Richie to college and then to Nashville. This tells the tale of Richie's life discovering his music and the fact that he's gay and his shot at fame and how he finally reconnects with Brandon. It was really well written, sad and sweet at the same time. I'll definitely be looking for more stuff by this author.

... moreon joins the Army during Vietnam. When Richie is asked to do a bring the troops home special he jumps at the chance. That last song about Brandon was heartbreaking. This was a very easy smoothly written transitioning from childhood through middle school and high school to adult life. While there isn't any detailed sex, but a few stolen kisses this book is still great. More about the emotional pull that keeps tugging. less
