review 1: Short stories are pretty hit or miss for me. This one was quite short (less than 20 minutes to read), but I didn't like Nick at all. He starts off as a jerk when he meets Johanna, but then decides she's not slutty and they start dating and fall in love. Then he does something unforgivable (and unbelievably immature), and five years later Johanna sees him on a train. The fact that it didn't end with her punching him in the face was a disappointment.
review 2: The measure of a great short is when you wished it were longer! I read Leaving Green Island last year and loved it, one of my favs of the year, so I have been patiently waiting for something else from this author, so I was so happy to find this little jewel for a free read. I love it and instantl... morey wanted to know more about Johanna and Nick, which to me is the strength of a short story, you want to know so much more but you get just enough to completely suck you in; this one did just that. This was a lovely read. Thank you. less
