review 1: Days Gone Bad (Vesik), is an interesting novel about a wise cracking necromancer named Damien Vesik. He and his host of fantastical friends are thrust into having to save the world from an ancient evil. This menagerie of mythical beings (vampires, ghosts, fairies, etc) have to find a way to stop arguing long enough to work together to save the world. This novel is good, but could have been so much better. First, there are a pretty good number of characters in this book. Unfortunately, only a few come across as memorable. There wasn't enough character development for this to be the first book in a series. Second, the premise of the book is solid, but the plot seems to be all over the place. This book came across more as a continuation. Third, this book is pretty dark... more. I'm not bothered by it, but I know some may have issues getting past some of the vivid battle/death scenes. I found myself really starting to like this pain in the ass, chimichanga eating jokester. But the book left me feeling like there were some things missing. I'm not 100% sure if I'll continue the series.
review 2: I am so glad that I met Eric Asher at Penned Con and found this series! I started this book, feeling that it had so much promise as a new favorite Urban Fantasy series, and I was hooked from the first page! I love the world-building and the characters and enjoyed each new layer within the story, uncovered during late-night reading sessions when I couldn't put it down.I am very excited to continue reading the series and am sure that it will hold my interest for a long time to come! less
