review 1: Ouch. This book was hard to finish. In addition to the obvious lack of editing (here's a clue: just because something is a brand name doesn't mean there's an apostrophe s at the end when you pluralize it), the main character of the story was entirely unlikable.First of all, how does one own a preschool, but not know how to care for a toddler? That seems totally unbelievable. But the part that really nailed this character's personality for me was when she saw the slaves working in her future husband's orange grove in the heat with no water but then left and went to New York, the author wrote that once she was back in New York, the "haunting eyes of the slaves no longer bothered her as much" anymore. Meanwhile she did not do a thing to help those women or their lives. I was n... moreot aware that such vacant and shallow people even existed on this planet. Good thing this is fiction!
review 2: I was very excited when I won a copy of this book, it sounded like a fun book. Boy, was I disappointed. I read the entire thing, waiting for it to redeem itself and am sorry to say, it never does. The heroine, Vanessa, is one of the most shallow, spoiled, greedy characters I have ever read. I have never disliked a fictional character more. There are some very unfortunate grammar mistakes in the book, which makes it distracting to read. But what was more bothersome, was the amount of exclamation points through out the entire book. I felt like the narrator was constantly yelling at the reader. However, my biggest problem with this book, is that the author touches on the subject of human trafficking, and the heroine does nothing to stop a huge injustice. There is no excuse to touch on such a heavy subject, then do nothing with it. I wish I could find something positive to say about this book, but I can't. less
