review 1: This "wacky" story in the form of the traditional Christmas carol "Deck the Halls" is designed for illustrating, which Nick Ward does with flare. His illustrations are cute and full of life. However the story's new lyrics by Erin Dealey feel like cheap chocolate-initially addictive but with a bad after taste. Sure it is funny seeing the children wreck the house, but how are you going to use this book?
review 2: I know it's meant to be funny. I just don't find bratty kids humorous. Too bad because the "story" (lyrics) are well honed to fit the original melody and the illustrations are cute. Could be a fun read-aloud if you like misbehaving antics, I guess. I just couldn't believe the kids made such a mess and the *parents* had to clean it up. Plus bummer the... morey were so annoyed with the aunts and uncles. At the end there's an indication they all love one another anyway but this just wasn't the holiday book for me. less
