review 1: Really sweet book. I loved all the little stories within it about the secrets"lives" of the dresses. Even though the story is about a girl, Dora, who has returned home for her dying grandmother (who raised her), it is not depressing at all. Instead you get a really feel for the grandmother and what a wonderful person she was. Definitely not your stereotypical elderly character. I really loved the vintage dress shop too, and the various characters in Dora's life. Very nice book to read this time of year - not demanding and flows along nicely.
review 2: The Secret Lives of Dresses is one of those odd little books that I keep coming back to. I picked it up at a small bookstore sometime after it was released because I follow Erin McKean's blog, and swooped t
... morehrough it. Then I read it again. And again. It meets the re-readability test for books in my personal library, and the story, of finding oneself in the place one had dimissed, is always an ultimately happy read (though there's sadness on the way through). It's one of the books I pick up when I'm feeling unhappy because it helps restore some sense of proportion to my world. less

Sweet story. I enjoyed the book but it does have senseless profanity by one character throughout.
