review 1: I very much enjoyed some sections of this book. I think the author did a nice job sharing the autobiographical aspects of her story with Stieg. I also really enjoyed hearing how actual events, locations and people important to Mr. Larsson were woven into his novels. That being said, I would have liked to have seen more insight into her relationship with Mr. Larsson. What drew her to him and what kept them together through the challenges of their lives. Ms. Gabrielsson came across a bit shrill as she insisted that they were companions and soul mates - a great love story. I left the book thinking she protesteth too much - maybe Mr. Larsson's level of commitment was more like the protagonist in the trilogy. The main reason I gave this book a Two Star instead of Three or ... moreFour, was the legal battle coverage. The book reads more like a brief in support of her suit against the Larssons, rather than a tribute to her relationship to Stieg. I know the law suit is tramatic, but I would have preferred her to devote a chapter to the whole mess, rather than weaving references throughout the book.Bottomline - this book is an interesting one for a fan of the trilogy, but Ms. Gabrielsson should have made up her mind as to exactly what type of book she wanted to right. Biography? Tribute? Legal defense? All fall short.
review 2: I only gave this book 3 stars because it was more informational than riveting. I recommend it to anyone who has enjoyed the Millennium Trilogy. It piqued my interest because I found the Millennium Trilogy to be so immensely enthralling to my imagination that Stieg instantly became a person I wondered about in an awe-filled way. When I investigated more about him and sadly learned he wasn't living, I came across Eva's book.I enjoyed Eva's story of her life with Stieg, although it has a somber tone. Her love for him is clear, and her loss palpable through her words. I was surprised to learn that he based the components of his novels on real events....while time frame or location may be altered, all the atrocities in the books have actually occurred to someone at some time. Stieg hated injustice and made it his life work to expose it.Eva's fight for Stieg's literary legacy has no doubt been a rough journey, but she admirably campaigns for how Stieg would have wanted his writing to be released to the world. It's wretched his father and brother chose to profit grandly from Stieg's work and not honor his wishes. less
